What is Assistant Registration? 

Assistant registration is when the system automatically configures an account based on the sign-up environment (device and IP address). Follow the instructions shown on the screen then ask a friend near you to use their WeChat ID to help you complete the sign-up verification. 

The WeChat user must meet the following criteria to help with Assistant Registration: 

  1. Users signing up in Mainland China: Please find a mainland China user to help with sign-up. This friend should have bound a bank card to their WeChat Wallet and have signed up more than 6 months ago. 
  2. Users signing up in the Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Russia, Canada, or the United States: Please find a friend who signed up in your country or Mainland China to help with sign-up.  If a user from your country assists with sign-up, this friend must have signed up more than 1 month ago. If the friend is a mainland China user, this friend must have bound a bank card to their WeChat Wallet, and have signed-up more than 6 months ago. 
  3. Users signing up in other countries: Find a WeChat user from any country to assist with sign-up. If a user from outside Mainland China assists with sign-up, this friend must have signed up more than month ago. If the friend is a mainland China user, this friend must have bound a bank card to their WeChat Wallet, and have signed-up more than 6 months ago.

2. Conditions for WeChat Advertising

Before starting your journey on WeChat Advertising, there are 2 things to follow: Firstly, make sure you have a Verified WeChat Official Account (OA). Then make sure that your brand is not in the prohibited list of WeChat Advertising. 

2.1 Have Your WeChat Verified Official Account Ready

To apply for WeChat Ads account, all foreign entities have to apply through WeChat official sales partner overseas. Based on the actual operation, WeChat generally requires the brand to have a verified WeChat OA and has published at least 2 articles before applying for an ad account.

2.2 WeChat Advertising Policies – Industry Entry

In China, they have theALPRC Guidelines (Advertising Law of the People’s Republic of China). All social media platforms in China like Weibo, WeChat, Baidu, TouTiao, DouYin, and other sites have to follow the rules & regulations.

Here is the list of prohibited products or services according to China’s advertising law.

3. Geo-targeting users beyond China through WeChat Advertising, limited to 14 industries

WeChat Ads support targeted advertising for overseas WeChat users (outside mainland China) who have stayed in the country or region for more than 30 days. 

Ads are recommended based on the users’ current place of residence for improved advertising effectiveness. Unfortunately, not all industries are qualified to do geo-targeting ads on WeChat. 

Until Q4 2020, geo-targeting users beyond China is only supported in 9 regional countries and only open to 14 industries. Geo-targeting will be available when the conditions are met.
